ECE Approvals

ECE approvals and E-marks are both approval marks that are assigned to vehicles and vehicle components. Both marks are awarded after passing tests and inspections to ensure that the products meet the safety and environmental requirements in the European Union (EU).

ECE approvals are a set of regulations issued by the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (ECE). The regulations cover various vehicle components and systems, including lights, brakes, seat belts and child seats. Each type of vehicle part has its own ECE regulations. The ECE approval mark confirms that the product complies with the specific ECE regulation for that part.

E-marks are another form of approval awarded to vehicle components and systems. The E-mark is a European type-approval mark that is awarded by the EU Member States or by a technical service approved by the Member States. The E-mark confirms that the product complies with the relevant EU directives and regulations for that part. The E-mark is often used for lighting and other electronic equipment in vehicles.

The importance of ECE approvals and E-marks lies in the fact that they guarantee the quality and safety of vehicle components and systems. Obtaining the approvals confirms that the product complies with applicable regulations and allows the product to be sold and used in the European Union. As a consumer, it is important to check whether a product has the correct ECE approval mark or E-mark to ensure it meets the relevant safety and environmental requirements.

ECE-112

The ECE-112 approval is a European type approval granted to side marker lights used on vehicles wider than 2.10 metres. This type of approval is intended to improve road safety by increasing the visibility of vehicles, especially at night and in bad weather conditions.

The ECE-112 approval specifies requirements for the design, construction and performance of side marker lamps. These lights must meet certain dimensions and photometric requirements, such as the minimum intensity and angle of light and the color emitted.

Side marker lights with an ECE-112 approval are mandatory for vehicles wider than 2.10 meters and used for the international transport of goods by road. It is also allowed to install this lighting on vehicles that are not subject to this obligation, but it is not mandatory.

The ECE-112 quality mark is awarded after a product has met the specific requirements of the ECE regulations. The label confirms that the product meets the safety and performance requirements set out in the regulations. As a consumer, it is important to ensure that the side marker lights on your vehicle are ECE-112 approved to ensure they meet relevant safety and environmental requirements.
